Starting out a website, blog, magazine, whatever it may be, isn't always the easiest of tasks unless your a professional web designer. You can and will spend some time finding everything you need to put together a polished site with original content. Where do you start? Well I'm not a professional but I do have years of website creation experience and I will take you through my journey for my new website you've arrived at here!
Step 1: Choosing a Website domain name. At first I had a hard time thinking up one..your title can reflect your website title or it can simply be your name..Some people are all for MyName.com sites, especially if it's a personal blog, but if I was marketing a business or a brand, I may have went with something to emphasize that. I believe there are many nifty and cliche type website names, make yours stand out! There are many sites that allow you to register your own domain name. I used GoDaddy.com
Step 2: Web Site Host: I am using Google's Blogger. Wordpress & Blogger are free. Others may choose to use the site they registered their domain with but these can be pricey. It all depends on your budget.
Step 3: Customize Your Site with Design. Graphics, banners, headers, nifty signature graphics. You can find them for free or pay to have a custom website design that fits your image. I'm using a free one at the moment, that will change as I will go with a custom design to fit my blog. I used Btemplates.com
Step 4: Getting Noticed! Blogger makes it easy to have your blog promoted with high traffic search engines. If you want to add more social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Pinterest, etc.. you can sign up for those (most are free) and link them to your blog. I do recommend using these social media add-on's because they do help with recognition and website site traffic, the more your promoting yourself out there, the better your stats! This article "The Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Creating Social Media Buttons" was a lifesaver when starting this site
Step 5: Making Money: There are many ways you can generate money to your blog/website. Many merchants have affiliate programs. Ebay, Amazon Marketplace, the options are endless! You can even add Paypal buttons to your site. This is helpful if your selling goods from your site and Paypal is highly trusted online.
I will work on writing more in-depth blog starting tutorials in the future. This is just a quick run through of the steps I took to start up this site!
